Child and Working Tax Credits (Getting Help with with Pre-School Costs)

What you'll get

You could get extra tax credits to help pay for some of your childcare costs while you’re working.

You could get:

You can’t get 100% of your childcare costs and how much you get depends on things like:

Please follow the links below for more information

Childcare tax credits (Free early learning for two, three and four year olds)

You may be able to get extra tax credits to help with childcare costs, if you’re a working parent.

Single parents must work 16 hours or more a week to get childcare tax credits.

Couples must both work 16 hours or more a week. But only one of you has to work these hours if the other is:

Please follow the links below for more information

The maximum cost of childcare you can have is £175 a week for 1 child and £300 a week for 2 or more children. You can then claim up to 70% of these costs

Government Funding

How much will I have to spend on childcare?

If you have plans to return to work, you'll need to work out the cost of childcare and what you can afford. How much you spend on childcare depends on a number of factors, including:

Although pre-school children are funded the term after their third birthday, there are very specific term dates dictated by the government:

Funding will be available if your child's birthday falls:

The funding covers each eligible child to attend for up to 15 hours per week, but no more than 10 hours per day.

If a child also attends another setting, then they are allowed a total of 15 hours across the settings.
Any extra hours above 15 hours per week will have to be paid for. See Stepping Stones prices

If you have any questions with regards to this please contact the Manager Caroline Betts 01422 323231

Tax Credits for your childcare

Nine out of ten families are eligible for some financial assistance through the new Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit. The amount you receive will depend on your circumstances.

Families with children can claim Child Tax Credit if their income is no more than £58,175 a year (up to £66,350 if you have a child under one).

The amount you get depends on various things, including your annual income and is paid directly into the bank of the main carer.

The other tax credit you may be entitled to, if either you or your partner is working, is called Working Tax Credit. It includes a childcare element to help families who are working and spending money on childcare.
